Undoubtedly the most talked-about gay film of 2000, Trick premiered in the UK at West End cinemas, to much acclaim.
A trash-talking drag queen, horny room-mates hogging the bedroom, a neurotic, struggling actress in need of attention... just a few of the people complicating matters for two would-be lovers in Jim Fall's delightful romantic comedy.
Gabriel (Christian Campbell) is a young, aspiring musical composer whose life seems stuck in the First Act. With nothing happening in his love-life, he spends most of his time with his best friend – drama queen and ultimate fag-hag, Katherine (Tori Spelling on fantastically catty form).
When his new musical number gets a critical reception, a theatre colleague, Perry (Steve Hughes), tells Gabriel that he needs to get a life before he can write about one – so he heads straight for his local gay bar. There, he spots hot go-go boy Mark (J.P Pitoc), and before long Gabriel has all the ingredients for the perfect one-night stand – except somewhere to go.
And so begins an all-night odyssey that finds Gabriel and Mark bouncing all over downtown Manhattan as fate, friends and misunderstandings conspire to keep them from coming together...
